Flightmasters
Board Meeting 6-14-8 10:am
Item#1: Field
Tom L. brought up that we believe we have a 5 year time line for our current location. He asked whether we should buy or rent property. Both options were discussed and we need to keep both options on the table for now. But keep in mind with the cost of property we may be forced to rent. It was brought up about whether or not Michigan was an option. Will members be willing to travel? What size and layout for the field. Jim B. mentioned that AMA has a recommended layout and size. 5 acres with 40 acres of fly over would be preferred. What are the costs to build and move the field? It took the club 1 year to grow grass and establish it enough to fly.
Item #2 Raising Money: Tom L. mentioned what events can we do to raise money for the clubs potential needs?
1. Swap meet.
2. Do the airport event again and charge admission and for food.
3. Sell raffle tickets get donation for an item to give away at the raffle.
4. Approach a business man with money about donations. Preferably someone with a common interest.
Item#3: Summer Events: Are we going to work the airshow in Goshen? Volunteers will need to be taken. The tailgate swap and fun fly event are we going to have one? Have a speed contest, Nate W. volunteered his radar gun. Tom L. decided to announce a club fun fly event on July 12th. We’d like to look into doing the limbo again, balloon bust, speed contest, grill out food. Denny O. mentioned he has lots of water left over from the last event. We all agreed it would be a good chance to bring out the junkyard planes and show them off. Hopefully we can pull in more interest for next winters contest.
Item#4: Volunteer Status: Current status was handed out by Harry R. We need to get this to the members. It will be sent out via email and mail to those who don’t have email. We need to make sure people get their required time.
Item#5 Member Status: Currently we have 52 members with 0 new members. Last year we had 83 members with 14 new members. It was brought up that due to the dues increase and current economic conditions people may not be able to afford to fly. It was also brought up that we knew that several of the members would have dropped out irregardless of the dues and economic conditions due to other personal reasons. Do to increased expenses and the fact we lost money last year we feel dues were justified. One of the older club members mentioned that the club has gone through these cycles in the past.
