Flightmasters of Elkhart County, Ltd.

Minutes of October 9th 2008 club meeting

The meeting was called to order by President Tom Langenhop at the Elkhart Airport.

Financial report was handed out and approved.

Tom L. reviewed last month’s minutes.

A special thanks to the secretary by Dave G. for meeting minutes.

Tom L. announced that we need to purchase and find a new push mower for the club.  Our current push mower is official dead.  Dave G. mentioned that he saw one at a garage sale across from the repair guy on CR14.

Jim B. has put up a small windsock on the opposite side of the field in response to the club members request.

Due to the theft this year Denny O. has purchased two cans.  Please change the combination on the lock to all padlocks immediately after you open the padlock.  People are forgetting to do this or to check this once they close the pad lock and the combination has been left on them.  This serves no purpose if we don’t follow through with clearing the combination.  The club trainer was found by Bill J. at a local garage sale.  He purchased it unknowingly.  Once it was realized it was the actual club trainer, he donated it back to the club.  A huge thanks goes out to Bill J. for the find and donation.  The authorities were informed, but nothing has come to fruition as of yet.  Please lift the weight off of the gate when opening and closing it.  This will help it last longer and operate smoothly.  It is very heavy and gravity as all us flyers know can damage our hard work.

During the next club meeting in November Thad B. will go over some basic programming on the new 2.4 ghz JR 9303 and possibly spectrum DX-7 radio.  Don’t miss this.  We are looking for more ideas on things you the club members would like to see demonstrated at the club meetings.  Feel free to drop us an idea via email, phone call, or just conversation.  It is best to talk with any of the board members, presidents, or secretary to make sure it is put on the agenda.  This upcoming December Tim L. will demonstrate on how to sharpen knives or scissors to help aid in cutting monokote effectively.

The club elections will be held in December.  Feel free to apply or nominate an individual.  Please only nominate individuals that are willing to participate.

There has been no decision as of yet to move the club.  We were visited by Kevin Bullard last week at the field and he stated he didn’t intend on selling until he goes and retires.  He is actually thinking of growing is current “farm”.  He doesn’t see the local home market improving for some time and that the current development to the west is all business.  We should have quite a while yet at our current field if we so chose to stay.  It was brought up by membership that there is an individual that owns 20 acres on Kessington Rd in Michigan that might be willing to rent the ground for $90/acre.  This needs to be explored by the field committee and firmed up at the club meeting for any consideration.

Show and Tell:  Dave Gonyer brought in quite a few old time kits he was able to purchase recently.  He had an old “Red Devil” kit that sold for $2.95 back in the day.  He also had a back to back series of warbid free-flight kits for display.

Jim Doty brought in pictures of his F4B4 he scratch built, crashed, and currently is rebuilding.  He brought in the cowl with dummy radial he built entirely from scratch.  It was an amazing display of ingenuity.  You people that aren’t coming to the meetings are really missing out on a good fellowship during and after these club meetings.  Don’t miss next week.

We are preparing for our next Junk Yard Wars.  If you missed it last time, don’t let it happen again.  This is an extremely fun and entertaining club event.  No experience building required only experience on how to crash.  Please start to bring in you “Junk” from this season so we can add it to our collection.  The Junk Yard committee is considering opening this competition up to outside clubs.  Even if you don’t want to participate in the build you’ve got to watch us try to fly this “Junk”, it’s hilarious.

The next meeting will be a Thursday November 13th at 7pm at the Elkhart Airport.  Bring something to show and tell.

Meeting was adjourned.

Thanks

Respectfully submitted
